What happens at the Athens Water Festival?

Water organizations come together to make water sparkle! Touch sea life, become a water drop, or create a water delivery system. ACC Water Conservation: Send "water" through a pipe system you build, make dirty water clean, and help fire up the hydrants! ACC Stormwater: Follow a waterdrop through a maze, paint or build a rain barrel, and visit with Tortuga del Agua.
ACC Leisure Services: Join in a light saber battle, help create Cloud City, & swim in Lake Chapman. Canoes available for small fee.
Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful: Be a hungry sea turtle looking for yummy jellyfish - but don't be fooled by the plastic!
UGA Marine Sciences: Get up close & personal with creatures from the Georgia coast.
ACC Recycling: When you recycle, you are conserving water!
ACC Cooperative Extension & Master Gardeners: Make a pot out of newspaper & plant a seed inside. Remember to water! UGA Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resource: Meet some animals who remind us of water's importance to all life
Upper Oconee Watershed Network: Walk along a mock stream and meet some of the creatures who make it their home.
State Botanical Gardens of GA: Water is essential to growing a garden that attracts wildlife. Sandy Creek Nature Center: Where does water go when it lands on Earth? The answer isn't always easy!
ACC Master Composters:Make edible "compost" to take home and eat. Yummy!
Bear Hollow Wildlife Trail:Create a boat for the recycled boat regatta and meet a few critters - they need water, too!
Peachy Green Clean Co-op: What do you get when life hands you lemons? A natural cleaning product to take home! Waterhshed UGA & EcoReach: Meet our aquatic swimming mates...the macroinvertebrates! Find out how they keep our water clean.
State Botanical Gardens: Stop by to pot
a drought resistant plant and take it home to add to your yard.
UGA Water Resource Team: Watch how easily litter can wash into our water systems & groundwater.
Little Squirts Area: Perfect for the little ones, come wash laundry, paint rain barrels, or fire up hydrants.
Public Utilities & Transportation and Public Works: Splash in the spray and explore the trucks needed to take care of our water in ACC
AND MORE: Capture a Pokemon, hunt for WaterSense, get a FREE water-efficient showerhead, and more!
You don't have to tell the kids, but we splash learning into a bucket load of fun. Most water festival activities meet the Georgia Performance Standards in science.
