Animal Control

If you have an emergency, such as an animal bite, a seriously sick or injured animal, or an animal trapped inside a living space of a home, call 706-613-3540 during business hours or 911 after hours.

PLEASE NOTE: The cat shelter operations will be moving to the main shelter at 125 Buddy Christian Way on April 27, 2016. The telephone number for the cat shelter will be the same as the main shelter (706-613-3540) after that date. The hours of operation will not change.

Responsibilities

Athens-Clarke County Animal Control protects the public safety and health from at-large and dangerous animals and protects animals from inhumane treatment. Animal Control provides the following services for citizens:

  • Adoption or reclaiming of impounded and surrendered dogs
  • Enforcement of the Athens-Clarke County Animal Control Ordinances
  • Information regarding lost or found dogs
  • Investigations of allegations of animal cruelty
  • Public education on a variety of topics related to animals
  • Public safety from dangerous or seriously sick animals and at-large dogs
