The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department presents Upstream II at Lyndon House Arts Center. This group exhibition focuses on the African and African-American artist experience through abstraction and the figure. This exhibit includes works by contemporary professional black artists, working in our region and exploring identity, race and culture including, William Downs, Broderick Flanigan, Jerushia Graham, Njambi Mwaura, and Meaza Nigatu.

From drawing to installation, painting to relief sculpture, these artists share a passion for expression through artistic endeavor. Using patterns, shadows, drawing, printmaking and painting, these artists add to the ever important conversation of race relations in our times.
Upstream II is on view from January 14 – March 2, 2017. The reception for Upstream II is Saturday, January 14 from 1- 4 PM. This event is part of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend celebration.
In addition, on Thursday, January 19, from 6-8 PM and as part of the Athens Third Thursday Art Night, artist Jerushia Graham will present a gallery talk and lead a print making workshop. This event is free and open to the public.
