Who picks up dead animals?
Athens-Clarke County does pick up dead animals in the street or on the right of way. If the animal is not in the street or on the right of way, it is the property owner's responsibility to remove it. For dead animals in the right of way in the Urban Service District (inside the former Athens City limits) contact the Solid Waste Department at 706-613-3501. For dead animals in the right of way in the Rural Service District (outside the former Athens City limits) contact the Streets & Drainage Division at 706-613-3465.
Dead animals that are located on a State Highway in Athens-Clarke County will be picked up by the Georgia Department of Transportation, please contact them at 706-583-2644.
