Bear Hollow Wildlife Trail is open daily from 9 a.m. to sunset. Meander down the trail and see interesting Georgia wildlife including eagles, deer, black bear, otters and many more in their natural habitat. Zoo Apprentice Program (ZAP)-Discover what it takes to be a zookeeper during this 3-Saturday educational session. Participants will feed the resident animals, clean exhibits and learn about our wildlife. Participants receive a T-shirt and their name on a plaque in the zoo. For ages: 10-13 Dates: Sat. Jan. 12, 19 and 26 For ages 9-10 Dates: Sat. Feb. 9, 16 and 23 Hours: 1:00-4:00 p.m. Fee: $0-$20 ACC Residents (dependent on scholarship eligibility), $27 Non-ACC Residents

Mommy (or Daddy!) & Me Program: Animals in Winter – Moms are encouraged to bring their pre-schoolers to this program where you learn about how the animals stay warm in winter while at the zoo, make a winter craft, hear a winter story and enjoy a warm winter snack! Ages: 3-5 Date: Thursday, January 3 Time: 10:00 a.m.-Noon Location: Sign in at Memorial Park Recreation Hall Registration: December 3-28.  Minimum 5 children, maximum 16. HERP,  HERP HOORAY-Come and explore the Exhibit Hall to learn about reptiles and amphibians that live in Georgia. We will have crafts, live animals to touch and zoo staff available to answer all of your questions about the cold-blooded creatures. The program will be held rain or shine. Ages: For all ages Date: Monday, Jan. 7 Time: 10:00 a.m.-noon. Location: The Exhibit Hall in the zoo Fee: Free!

EAGLE APPRECIATION DAY!-Celebrate Eagle Watch month at Bear Hollow with Amazon, the resident bald eagle and Pocahontas the resident golden eagle.  Learn where to go in Georgia to see these magnificent birds and learn what the differences are between the two species.  We will have live feeding demonstrations, crafts, games, binocular basics and lots of fun! Also, test your bird and eagle knowledge in a game of Jeop-Birdy! This program will be held rain or shine. Day off School Program: Wild, Wooly Winter! -We’ll spend the morning learning about how the zoo animals survive in winter, making a winter craft or two, playing some winter games, and making a warm, winter snack!  In the afternoon, we’ll make a trip to the movie theater to check out a family-friendly holiday offering! Ages: 6-12 Date: Friday, January 4 Time: 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (Bring a bag lunch!) Wee Winter Wonderland – Join us for a special series of programs for pre-school children and their parents. Learn how plants and animals cope with the freezing temperatures each week as we explore outside and play games. Please dress for the weather! Ages: 2 – 4; parents must accompany! ANIMALS IN ART-Show us your talents and help us decorate our Exhibit Hall with you art work. Participants and their families will be invited to a special viewing ceremony where the winners will be announced. Prizes will be awarded for specific age categories. Ages: 4-18 Date: All entries due by March 1st. Entries may be dropped off at the Zoo Operations Center by appointment only. You may pick up an entry form at the zoo or through your school. TEEN NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY PROGRAM-NEW!-Learn the basics of photography including film development and the how to's of nature photography in the classroom and outdoors. Participants are required to bring their own 35mm camera plus color film to the first session. KIDS IN ACTION!-Volunteer in the zoo along with staff on a special project. All volunteers must be comfortable around mammals, birds and reptiles. All must not be afraid of hard work. Volunteers will be closely supervised. Each volunteer will receive a Bear Hollow T-shirt upon completion of the program. Volunteers will also present a program to parents on the last day! GIRL SCOUT JAMBOREE-New!-Join Bear Hollow for an overnight extravaganza! The "Creatures of the Night" program focuses on animals that are awake when its dark. Girl Scouts will have an opportunity to spend the night with their troop as well as other troops from Athens and surrounding areas. Each scout will earn a special Bear Hollow patch for participating in the program Ages: Daisies through Cadettes Program Dates: Friday March 7 for Daisies and Brownies, Friday, March 28 for Juniors and Cadettes Time: 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 a.m. Location: Zoo Operations Center 706-613-3616 ext 22 Registration Dates: February 1 until full; limited space! Spring Break Camp: Steppin’ Into Spring! -Spring Break will be here before you know it!  Spend the week with having fun at the park and zoo!  We’ll play some games, make some cool crafts, learn about the animals in the zoo, do a little healthy cooking, and enjoy a local trip or two! Ages: 6-12 years Program Dates: March 10-14 Time: 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Location: Drop off & pick up at Memorial Park Recreation Hall Registration Date: February 4- March 5.  NO LATE REGISTRATION ALLOWED.  Minimum 10 participants, maximum 40 participants. Fee: $50 ACC resident/ $60 Non-ACC resident 

PARENT'S DAY OUT: APRIL SHOWERS & MAY FLOWERS-We invite all elementary aged students to spend a day with us while parents have a chance to enjoy a day to themselves! We'll spend some time at the zoo, play some games, make a spring craft or two, have a snack and spend some time outdoors, if the weather is nice! Ages: 4-11 Date: Saturday, April 5 Time: 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. (Can drop in and out!), Please bring a bag lunch! Location: Check in at the Memorial Park Recreation Hall Registration: March 3-April 2. BIRCHMORE TRAIL DAY-Join Athens-Clarke County Recycling staff and Memorial Park staff for the 8th Annual Birchmore Trail Day event. Meet the famous Fred Birchmore, hike the trail for a prize and enjoy activities such as leaf rubbings and face painting. Ages: For all ages Program Date: Sunday, May 4 Time: 1:00-4:00 p.m. Location: Memorial Park, Birchmore Trail 706-613-3512 Fee: Free and open to the public

Zoo Parties-Have your birthday or other fun party at Bear Hollow's Operations Center. Three packages are available and some include specialty cakes in the shape of animals. All parties include a Zoo Tour and a T-shirt for the birthday person. Ages: For all ages, Program dates: Saturday or Sunday. Time: 10:00-1:00 or 2:00-5:00. Registration: At the Memorial Park Operations Center, parties are at the Zoo Operations Center. Fee: $75-$135, depending upon the package selected.

ZOO ANIMAL FEEDING TOURS- Learn all about the resident animals and why they cannot be released to the wild. Each has its own story. These tours will be on the first and third Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. Free and open to the public.

Sunday Open Exhibit Hall-
You can explore the Exhibit Hall and visit with some of the animals used in programs such as the salamanders, pond turtles, snakes and more. The classroom will be open on the second and fourth Sunday of each month from 1-4 p.m. Free and open to the public.

SCOUTING FOR SCOUTS! -
We are offering a variety of scout programs for girls and boys of all ages. All the leaders have to do is call us to set a date and time, and we’ll take care of the rest, including the badges! Please call for more information.

GROUP PROGRAMS -
A variety of topics are available from birds of prey to creatures of the night depending upon interest. Programs can be oriented to any age level. Call for information and reservations. The fee is $2 for ACC residents and $3 for Non-ACC residents.

Creatures of the Night Sleepover for Groups-Hoot with the owls during our new overnight program. Experience some up-close animal encounters, test your night animal knowledge during a challenging games, dissect owl pellets and enjoy a feeding tour in the morning. Continental breakfast provided.
