Neeley Drive The GA Department of Labor provides a wide range of services to job seekers and employers. These include administration of Georgia’s unemployment insurance, employment service, and vocational rehabilitation programs; provision of workforce information to the public and private sectors; inspection of boilers, pressure vessels, amusement park and carnival rides; and oversight of child labor issues. Landfill – 706-613-3508 5700 Lexington Road The Municipal Solid Waste Landfill is a division of the ACC Solid Waste Department that accepts waste, scrap metal, scrap tires, leaf and limb materials, and recyclable materials (including electronics) from ACC residents. The landfill is open Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. except for holidays. All garbage must be bagged or covered. The landfill also sells clean mulch made from leaf and limb materials. Landlord and Tenant Rights and Issues – 800-369-4706 The GA Department of Community Affairs contracts with Georgia Legal Services to provide the Landlord Tenant Hotline and Handbook. The hotline allows callers to leave their name and question. The handbook answers questions and describes rights and responsibilities of both tenants and landlords. Copies of the handbook may be requested by writing to the Georgia Landlord-Tenant Hotline, P.O. Box 79072, Atlanta, Georgia 30357-7072. It is their responsibility to mow all public rights-of-way in the county, with the exception of those on state roads. Law Library, Athens-Clarke County – 706-613-3177 www.athensclarkecounty.com/lawlibrary Courthouse, 325 East Washington Street, Suite 333 The Athens-Clarke County Law Library is available for public use and has a collection of state and federal code books, volumes of United States Reports and Supreme Court Reports, Georgia laws, legal digests, and legal encyclopedias. It also has computer research capabilities, including LEXISNEXIS, a legal computer research source with resources from other jurisdictions as well as Georgia. Lay Park and Community Center, Thomas N. – 706-613-3596 / 706-546-9552 (Pool – Seasonal) 297 Hoyt Street This facility of the ACC Leisure Services Department opened in 1975. Lay Park features a gymnasium, full-service kitchen, multi-purpose room, resource library, computer lab, game room, sports fields, swimming pool, picnic shelter, and playground. The park offers programs for children and adults throughout the year. Leaf and Limb Pick-Up – 706-613-3501 ext. 441 This service is provided countywide to all citizens. The automated phone system provides current and upcoming pickup locations. Monthly printed schedules are available at the ACC Water Business Office, City Hall, and the Athens Regional Library. Weekly listings are provided in the Classified section of the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday editions of the Athens Banner-Herald under the “Community Notes” section. These include: Athens Creative Theatre, Bear Hollow Wildlife Trail (Zoo), Ben Burton Park, Bishop Park, Broad Acres Enrichment Center, Dudley Park, East Athens Community Center, East Athens Educational Dance Center, East Athens Park, J.R. Holland Youth Sports Complex, Lyndon House Arts Center, Memorial Park, Morton Theatre, North Oconee River Greenway, Parkview Enrichment Center, Reese and Pope Park, Rocksprings Neighborhood Center, Sandy Creek Nature Center, Sandy Creek Park, Satterfield Park, Southeast Clarke Park, and Thomas N. Lay Park. A Citizen’s Advisory Board is used for help in planning and development of facilities and resources. (see also: individual entries). Liens are filed with the Clerk of Superior and State Courts, which is a public record office with all records available for viewing. LIFT Information – 706-613-3435 Athens Transit System provides the same coverage area as The Bus for riders with disabilities through door to door service with The LIFT. Approved applicants must schedule rides within 24 hours of desired time. Applications for eligibility can be obtained at the Athens Transit Office or through www.athenstransit.com (see also: Athens Transit System). LINK Information – 706-613-3430 The LINK service from Athens Transit provides a demand-response circulator van service to some of the more rural areas of the community outside of normal bus service areas. The service is provided to the general public and provides a “link” to the regular bus services at various locations around the community. Litter
Lyndon House Arts Center – 706-613-3623 293 Hoyt Street This facility was purchased by the city in 1939 and launched as the first government-sponsored community arts program in1973. The 1850s-era Ware-Lyndon House was renovated and the Center expanded in 1999 as part of the SPLOST IV Program. With the Arts Center expansion, the house now serves as a museum and welcomes programs, local exhibits, and cultural events. The Center is owned and operated by the ACC Leisure Services Department.
