Abandoned Vehicles – 706-613-3345

It is unlawful to leave a vehicle parked in one place on a public street, highway, or other Athens-Clarke County owned property for more than 48 hours. If a vehicle is reported to have been abandoned, it is first determined whether or not it has been reported stolen. If it has been reported stolen, or if its position on a roadway makes it a potential traffic hazard, the vehicle can be towed immediately. If it has not been reported stolen and is not a potential traffic hazard, then its tires will be marked. Forty-eight (48) hours later, if the marked vehicle has not been moved, it can lawfully be towed.

Voters may vote by absentee ballot by mail without providing a reason or in person under certain conditions. Applications for absentee ballots may be obtained from the ACC Board of Elections or through the GA Secretary of State Web site (www.sos.georgia.gov/elections/).

Advantage Behavioral Health Systems (ABHS) is a publicly-funded provider of behavioral health, developmental disability, and addictive disease services for 10 counties in Northeast Georgia, including Athens-Clarke County. Applicants must pay an investigation fee for an alcohol license at the time of the application. Following payment, a check must be performed on everyone involved in the business at hand. Zoning must be approved for an alcohol license, and the distances to nearest school, church and private dwelling must be determined.

This process refers to any form of settling a dispute other than litigation. Mediation is one type and the method used by the courts in Athens-Clarke County. Mediation is a process by which a neutral third party facilitates negotiations between other parties in conflict.

The ACC Animal Control Division of the Central Services Department operates the animal shelter and is responsible for public safety from dangerous or seriously sick animals and at-large dogs, barking dog complaints, investigations of animal cruelty allegations, enforcement of the ACC Animal Control ordinances, adoption or reclaim of impounded and surrendered dogs, public education on a variety of animal related topics, and information regarding lost or found dogs (see also: Adoption, Dog; Animal Shelter; Cats; Wildlife; selected ordinances on page 8).

Dead animals are only removed from public rights-of-way. Dead animals on private property can be disposed of by private wildlife removal companies or by transporting them to the ACC Landfill.
