It is equipped with a gymnasium, full-service kitchen, multi-purpose room, resource library, computer lab, game room, sports fields, swimming pool, picnic shelter, and playground. The center offers programs for children and adults throughout the year. East Athens Development Corporation (EADC) – 706-208-0048 410 McKinley Drive, Suite 101 Since its start with neighborhood revitalization, EADC has grown to include community based micro-enterprise, job development and afffordable housing initiatives. East Athens Educational Dance Center – 706-613-3624 390 McKinley Drive This facility of the ACC Leisure Services Department offers dance classes throughout the year for children and adults. An annual production is held at the Morton Theatre. East Athens Community Park – 706-613-0185 216 Trail Creek Drive This 113-acre park is a facility of the ACC Leisure Services Department. The first phase of the park includes two lighted football/soccer fields, one practice baseball field, a walking trail and a picnic shelter. Economic Development Foundation (EDF) – 706-613-3810 150 East Hancock Avenue, Simon Michael Memorial Building The EDF’s purpose is to attract and establish new businesses that will create additional jobs and import capital investment to Athens-Clarke County. The organization is devoted to new business development along with sharing and promoting the numerous economic assets of the area. It was created and is supported by a partnership formed between the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, the Athens-Clarke County Economic Development Authority, and the University of Georgia (see also: Small Business Resource Coordinator). Education, Board of (see: Clarke County School District) EFNEP (see: Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program) Elderly (see: Aging, Athens Community Council on) Elections (see: Board of Elections) Electronics, Recycling (see: Landfill; list of accepted items for recycling) Emergencies – 911 For fire, police, animal control, or medical emergencies. Emergency Management Agency (EMA) – 706-613-3410 ACC Fire and Emergency Services Department The local EMA coordinator develops and updates standard operating procedures for responding to and recovering from natural and man-made disasters, assists the general public in responding to and recovering from emergency situations, and coordinates evacuation plans, among other duties. Emergency Water or Sewer Service – 706-613-3495 / 706-613-3481 (After Hours) ACC Public Utilities Department ACC is responsible for water and sewer leaks on public streets, rights-of-way, and easements. If a leak is on private property (between the water meter and the house) an independent plumber should be called. If it is uncertain where the leak lies (public or private property), call ACC Public Utilities for assistance. Employment, Summer (See: Summer Employment) ENSAT (Environment, Natural Science and Appropriate Technology) Center – 706-613-3615 www.sandycreeknaturecenter.com / www.accleisureservices.com Sandy Creek Nature Center, 205 Old Commerce Road This unique facility was built almost entirely using recycled, recyclable, or energy efficient materials. It also houses the renowned Loggerhead sea turtle program and other environmental learning centers. Additionally, the center features Americans with Disabilities Act accessible trails. The building was built as part of the SPLOST IV program and is operated by the ACC Leisure Services Department with support from Sandy Creek Nature Center, Inc. (see also: Sandy Creek Nature Center). Environmental Coordinator – 706-613-3530 ext. 245 www.athensclarkecounty.com/green ACC Central Services Department This position is responsible for a variety of activities associated with the planning and coordination of environmental programs to ensure compliance with local, state and federal environmental regulations. It also serves as a central point of contact for general environmental questions from citizens, businesses, industry and other agencies. Other duties include coordinating ACC’s green building, energy conservation, and environmental management system initiatives. Environmental Health Division (see: Health Department) Equalization, Board of – 706-613-3140 This three-member board is appointed by the Grand Jury to hear appeals on property values and exemptions. Members are appointed for three-year terms and answer to a Superior Court Judge. The independent board sets the date and time for hearings, hears evidence from both the taxpayer and the Tax Assessor’s office, and makes a decision on the value of the property/exemption. If either party disagrees with the decision, it may be appealed to the Superior Court. Estates – 706-613-3321 The Estates division of the Probate Court issues probate wills as required by law and deals with petitions involving estates, guardianship of person and property of minors, and incapacitated adults. Events, Special and/or Outdoor Any organized activity having as its purpose entertainment, recreation, and/or education (such as a festival, celebration, foot/vehicle race, parade, march, rally, or assembly) that takes place on a public street, sidewalk, or right-of-way, or occurs on private property and impacts government services on public rights-of-way, must submit an application to the ACC Central Services Department at least 60 days in advance. All outdoor events with commercial entertainment or amplification must be registered with the ACC Police Department at least 72 hours beforehand. Registration for events falling during Sunday - Thursday, 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m., or Saturday and Sunday mornings, midnight - 7:00 a.m., will not be accepted. Special event permit applications are available online at the ACC Web site (see also: Demonstrations; Picketing; Athens-Clarke County Code of Ordinances ). Evictions Owners or agents wishing to evict a tenant must first file a dispossessory warrant affadavit in the Magistrate Court. Dispossessory warrants are then served by the Sheriff's Office (see also: Magistrate Court; Sheriff’s Office) Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) – 706-613-3640 This federally funded program conducted through the ACC Cooperative Extension Service helps families with children and pregnant mothers learn how to eat healthier meals and snacks, stretch their food dollars, and reduce the risk of food-borne illness. Exploring Programs Exploring is a career education program for young men and women who are 14-20 years old. The ACC Police Department (706-613-3330), the ACC Sheriff’s Department (706-613-3270), and the ACC Fire Department (706-613-3360) all have groups.
