Programming and events are offered year round, including summer camps for children and teens. It is supported by Sandy Creek Nature Center, Inc., a non-profit support organization. Satterfield Park – 706-613-3589 (Bishop Park) 3028 Cherokee Road This 13-acre facility of the ACC Leisure Services Department is named in honor of the late Dr. Wayne Satterfield, a founding member of the Little League program in Athens. The park has five athletic fields, three tennis courts, a batting cage, and a playground. Satula Building 375 Satula Avenue This building holds ACC’s Finance Department, Human Resources Department, Organizational Development Division, and Human and Economic Development Department (see also: individual department and division entries). A searchable online database for the state is available at www.gbi.georgia.gov and a listing of Athens-Clarke County offenders can be found at www.clarkecountysheriff.org. Sheriff’s Office – 706-613-3250 Courthouse, 325 East Washington Street, Suite 125 The Sheriff is responsible for the physical health and welfare of all inmates in the jail, and the management of their property and money. The office serves criminal warrants, civil papers, and subpoenas; executes evictions; transports prisoners to court; extradites prisoners from other states to court; and provides security for Athens-Clarke County judicial areas and the Courthouse (see also: Courthouse; Jail; and individual court entries). Skate Park (see: Southeast Clarke Park) Small Business Development Center – 706-542-7436 Small Business Resource Center – 706-613-3810 ACC Economic Development Foundation, 155 Hancock Avenue The Small Business Resource Center acts as a point of contact for people wanting to start or expand a small business. The goal of the Center is to help all entrepreneurs and small business people with an additional focus on developing of music/film/art and health care/bioscience businesses. Hancock Avenue Soil Testing (see: Cooperative Extension Service) Solicitor-General – 706-613-3215 Courthouse, 325 East Washington Street, Suite 550 The Office of the Solicitor-General serves as the prosecuting attorney in State Court and the Athens-Clarke County and Winterville Municipal Courts. In these capacities, the Solicitor-General has the responsibility to decide on prosecution of all misdemeanor offenses occurring within the limits of Athens-Clarke County. Solid Waste – 706-613-3501 1005 College Avenue The ACC Solid Waste Department provides collection and disposal services that meet or exceed state standards and are responsive to the community’s health and sanitary needs. Solid Waste collects trash and recycling for both citizens and small- and large-sized community businesses (see also: Garbage Collection; Landfill; Materials Recycling Facility; Recycling; see:list of ordinances ). Southeast Clarke Park – 706-613-3871 4440 Lexington Road This facility is owned and operated by the ACC Leisure Services Department. It houses baseball and softball fields, a 1-mile walking track, soccer fields, a nature trail, off-leash dog run and agility course, the WOW Athens Community Playground, a skate park, and more. Spanish Language / Translation Assistance (see: Catholic Social Services; Community Connection) Spaying/Neutering Animals (see: Athens Regional Spay & Neuter Center or call private veterinarians) Speakers’ Bureau (ACC Unified Government) – 706-613-3795 Contact the ACC Public Information Office to request a speaker from the Unified Government. SPLOST – 706-613-3025 City Hall, 301 College Avenue, Suite 101 The Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) is a 1-cent sales tax approved by voters in 1994 (SPLOST IV), 1999 (SPLOST 2000), and 2004 (SPLOST 2005) that funds a variety of capital projects. A citizens’ advisory committee oversees projects, which are managed by a private company contracted by Athens-Clarke County. SPLOST progress reports, images, and other items are available online. Sports, Youth and Adult The ACC Leisure Services Department offers a variety of sports leagues through their Athletics Division (706-613-3589) and Recreation Division (706-613-3596 or 706-613-3593). St. Mary’s Hospital (see: Saint Mary’s Hospital) State Court – 706-613-3200 Courthouse, 325 East Washington Street, Suite 425 State Court has concurrent jurisdiction with Superior Court in civil actions except where exclusive jurisdiction is given to the Superior Court by the Constitution. It handles appeals from the Magistrate’s Court and has criminal jurisdiction in misdemeanor cases. The DUI/Drug Court is also part of State Court (see also: Clerk of Superior and State Courts; Court Administrator; Drug Courts). Positions include summer camp management, camp counselors, and aquatics staff. Applications are usually accepted from mid-January until May or later depending on the position. Superior Court – 706-613-3163 Courthouse, 325 East Washington Street, Third Floor The Superior Court has jurisdiction in divorce, felony, land-title, equity, adoption, and certain civil suits. The Felony Drug Court is also part of the Superior Court. The Western Judicial Circuit is comprised of Athens-Clarke County and Oconee County. This court also handles appeals from the Probate Court (see also: Clerk of Superior and State Courts; Court Administrator; Drug Courts). Surveys, Land Surveys can be provided by private companies.
