The ACC Tax Commissioner's Office is involved in the preparation of the digest, collection of ad valorem tax on real and personal property, disbursements of these collections to the levying authorities, and final audit of these transactions. Tax sale auctions conducted by the ACC Tax Commissioner’s Office are held on the steps of the Courthouse at 10:00 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. Listings of available properties are placed in the local paper four weeks prior to the sale.

This Greek revival home built in the mid-1840’s was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976. It is owned by Athens-Clarke County and managed by the Junior League of Athens for tours and rentals. It was renovated as part of the SPLOST 2000 program and reopened in 2005.

Teen Challenge offers residential and non-residential care for individuals with life-controlling issues dealing with substances, behaviors, and relationships. The Athens center is for juvenile girls ages 13-17, which includes a home, education, and individual and group counseling.

A state Health Department program for teenagers ages 11-19 that offers a variety of medical services, as well as health education programs, guidance counseling, and community involvement opportunities.

Temporary Protective Orders / Temporary Restraining Orders

Temporary Restraining Orders (TROs) and Temporary Protective Orders (TPOs) are both filed through the Clerk of Superior and State Court. These two different types of orders are issued by a court restraining the conduct of a person and protecting a victim from the activities of an abusive person (see also: Clerk of Superior and State Court).

The ACC Transportation and Public Works Department provides technical service for traffic operations systems, construction and maintenance of road systems, engineering inspection of public roads, sidewalks, and drainage facilities, and support services to other ACC projects involving public improvements.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) plans, constructs, maintains, and improves the state’s roads and bridges; provides planning and financial support for other modes of transportation such as mass transit and airports; provides airport and air safety planning; and provides air travel to state departments. The Department also provides administrative support to the State Tollway Authority, the Georgia Rail Passenger Authority, and the Georgia Southwest Rail Excursion Authority.

The TIP (Transportation Improvement Program) is an annual update that details a balanced three-year program of projects (Tier 1) and a second three-year program of projects (Tier 2) to be undertaken in the Athens Urbanized Area. The role of the TIP is to implement the short-range (three-year) elements of the long-range (20-year) area Transportation Plan. Although only federally-funded projects located within the urbanized area are required to be included in the TIP, all transportation projects are included for informational purposes. The comprehensive transportation project package enables local, state, and federal officials to evaluate the impact these proposed projects will have on the entire urban transportation system.

The Athens-Clarke County Treatment & Accountability Court (T.A.C.) target individuals who are or could be charged with a felony or misdemeanor criminal offense stemming from their mental illness or mental disability. Many of these individuals have co-occurring addictive disease. The Treatment & Accountability Court is administered by the Superior Court under Judge Sweat with assistance from Probate Court Judge Susan Tate.
