What is Fix a Leak Week?
Every spring, as part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) ongoing We're for Water campaign, the annual 
Fix a Leak Week encourages Americans to help put a stop to the more than 1 trillion gallons of water wasted from household leaks each year. In support of We're for Water, the Water Conservation Office promotes finding and fixing leaks in Athens-Clarke County.

What did we do in Athens for Fix a Leak Week 2013?
The Water Conservation Office accepted nominations for organizations to receive a water saving retrofit. The winner was Action Ministries.  As part of the retrofit, they received a WaterSense toilet, new kitchen faucet, and a new pre-rinse spray valve for the community kitchen.  These improvements will lower their water bill. The finalists. Project Safe, Salvation Army, and UGA Episcopal Center/St.Mary's Chapel received a water audit including new aerators, showerheads, and pre-rinse spray valves.

What did we do in Athens for Fix a Leak Week 2012?
The Water Conservation Office partnered with the University of Georgia's Office of Sustainability for Fix a Leak Week in 2012.  We sent teams of volunteers to faith-based and non-profit organizations to perform water conservation assessments, identify leaks, and to sharing opportunities for water conservation.

Individuals within congregations learned how to find and fix leaks at home and assist others in finding and fixing leaks.  The ACC Water Conservation Office provided the training and tools needed including WaterSense replacement aerators and other conserving devices that volunteers installed in the buildings.  

The Athens Community Council on Aging was the 2012 Fix-A-Leak Week Water Saving Retrofit Winner and has since cut their water bill in half!  Congratulations to the Athens Community Council on Aging!

The devices are available at no cost to Athens residents who conduct Water Conservation Assessments in their homes. 
Complete an assessment and bring it to the Water Conservation Office to get aerators, showerheads, and outdoor water kits.
