The Human and Economic Development (HED) Department administers local, state, and federal funds in partnership with nonprofit organizations and private, for-profit companies to develop decent affordable housing, create and expand small businesses, and improve neighborhoods in Athens-Clarke County, Georgia.

The department supports the expansion of housing choices through infill development, demolition, historic preservation, home repair and rehabilitation of multi-family developments. HED also funds strategies to foster small business expansion and job creation to improve economic conditions through partnerships with private developers, small businesses, and lenders.

Public Notice
The FY13 (July 1, 2012-June 30, 2013) Consolidated Plan and Annual Action Plan for the Community Development Block Grant and HOME Programs is available for public review and comment. HED will receive citizen comments on the proposed Annual Action Plan from April 13, 2012 to May 13, 2012. We encourage citizens to review the FY13 Annual Action Plan.  Written comments should be submitted to the Human & Economic Development Department no later than May 13, 2012.
