Transportation Network

Introduction

Athens-Clarke County has a substantial transportation network that has developed over the past 200 years. While a detailed regional transportation plan exists for the community in the Madison Athens- Clarke-Oconee Regional Transportation Study (MACORTS) 2030 Transportation Plan, this site will provide an overview of the existing and planned network. The primary focus for the transportation inventory section will be on the highway, mass transit, pedestrian and bicycle network.

Additional information on the Transportation Section of the Comprehensive Plan can be found in the Comprehensive Plan for Athens-Clarke County and the City of Winterville. It does not include information on the Oconee County or the Madison County portion of the MACORTS boundary. A copy of the document may be requested by contacting the Athens-Clarke County Planning Department at (706) 613-3515. Questions regarding the Comprehensive Plan for Oconee County should be directed to Wayne Provost at (706) 769-2921.
