The Public Information Office has revised the popular ACC From A To Z: A Guide to Athens-Clarke County Government and Community Services for 2007. A PDF of the guide is available online in the Documents section, or come pick up one from our office or newspaper rack on the corner of College & Broad Streets downtown.
The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government’s Web site, athensclarkecounty.com, launched a series of new features with live and on-demand online video of Mayor and Commission meetings and other videos beginning on Thursday, April 19, 2007.
Regular voting meetings and agenda setting sessions are streamed live in their entirety online and will also be available within two business days after the meetings for on-demand viewing online. On-demand viewing allows viewers to watch specific sections of the meetings through a series of bookmarks that are custom set to the meeting based on that evening’s agenda.
The ACC Web site also features other Unified Government videos such as public service announcements, as well as provide streaming live video of ACTV Cable Channel 7 from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. All of the meetings and videos will also be available in both audio and video podcast formats. The new system will also allow the Public Information Office to make CDs for the public for a small fee that include the on-demand videos and basic agendas and can play in any computer.
The Public Information Office, which maintains athensclarkecounty.com and ACTV Channel 7, partnered with Granicus, Inc. to provide the service to the community.
In
2003, Athens-Clarke County was ranked
#89 nationally out of 239 in the Municipality
eGovernment Assessment Project (MeGAP), a study that
benchmarks implementation
among cities nationwide.
The study assesses e-government implementation across
55 different city functions and services (performance
dimensions)
and assigns
each municipality an "e-score". This allows both
a snapshot of the leading edge, an inventory of current e-government
best practices and a benchmark of how different municipalities
stack up. Athens-Clarke County is ahead of the likes of Cincinnati,
OH, Orlando, FL, Pittsburgh, PA, Miami, FL, Baltimore, MD,
Atlanta, GA and New Orleans, LA. For more information, visit
the MeGAP
Web site.
