NEW - Madison Athens-Clarke Oconee Regional Transportation Study (MACORTS), the cooperative transportation planning body for the urbanized area which includes Athens-Clarke County, portions of southern Madison County and northern Oconee County, has initiated the amendment process for the 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan to add the SR 10 / Atlanta Highway Connector project.
This project will add a partial interchange to SR 10 Loop between the Tallassee Rd / Oglethorpe Ave. and US 78 / Atlanta Highway exits. This interchange will provide a connection to the Atlanta Highway via the Heyward Allen Parkway.
The Long Range Transportation Plan must be financially balanced at all times. Therefore, in order to add the SR 10 / Atlanta Highway Connector project to the Long Range Transportation Plan, other modifications will need to be made to offset the added expense.
Copies of the draft amendments will be available beginning February 25, 2008 for review at:
- Madison County Planning & Zoning Office - 91 Albany Avenue, Danielsville
- Athens-Clarke County Planning Department - 120 W. Dougherty Street, Athens
- Oconee County Planning and Economic Development Dept. – 22 North Main Street, Watkinsville
- MACORTS Web site (http://www.macorts.org).
Public comment will be accepted February 25, 2008 – March 12, 2008. Comments may be e-mailed to macorts@co.clarke.ga.us or delivered to any of the aforementioned locations.
Additional information can be attained by calling Sherry Moore in the Athens-Clarke County Planning Department at (706) 613-3515.
NEW -The Comprehensive Plan was approved by the Mayor & Commission on Thurs., Feb. 21 at a Special Called Session.
The ACC Planning Department’s Neighborhood Notification Initiative (NNI) received a 2007 Georgia Planning Association Award in the Outstanding Special Community Initiative category. The department won the award for the Outstanding Educational Tool for communities with populations larger than 15,000.
Adopted in May 2005, the NNI provides information about proposed developments to the neighborhoods in which they occur. Better lines of communication are available through the NNI between neighborhoods and those effecting change.
In February 2006, the first group of neighborhoods and special interest overlay areas were adopted in conjunction with the NNI. As registration information is submitted and endorsed, new groups are regularly added to the program. Each area corresponds to a listserve group for which members of the public may sign up to receive e-mail notification about proposed zoning actions.
Details about the NNI are available in the Neighborhoods section of www.accplanning.com.
