triangle new! Milledge Avenue Local Historic District:Consideration of the designation of the Milledge Avenue Local Historic District has been scheduled by the Historic Preservation Commission.

The public hearing will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Athens-Clarke County Planning Department Auditorium at 120 W. Dougherty Street. This hearing will address the proposed district designation, design guidelines, and associated code text amendments.

The meeting will include an opportunity for public comments before the Historic Preservation Commission makes a recommendation to be forwarded to the Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission for a final decision at a separate meeting. The documents under consideration are available for review on the Planning Department's website along with the Historic Preservation Commission's agenda for the evening.

The proposed zoning overlay for a portion of Milledge Avenue will be heard by the Planning Commission at their March 4, 2010, regular session meeting.  The proposed overlay zoning is primarily oriented toward guiding sorority and fraternity constructions and additions in this area and is an independent process from the proposed historic district designation.
