ATHENS-CLARKE
COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT
SPECIAL PRESS RELEASE Friday, October 30, 2009 SCAM WARNING |
|
Citizens should be aware of a scam that is currently going on in the Athens area and across the nation. On October 27 a report was filed in which a young, college age, white male knocked on the door of a residence. The male claimed to be selling books and magazines for an internet company called MYDYNASTYSALES.COM. The suspect told the victim he lived nearby and provided his parents names and address. The suspect told the victim that he was a UGA student and he was selling the books in order to go on a trip to London. He asked the victim if he could come inside to show his selection. He then asked to use the victim's bathroom. After the suspect was finished, he refused the victim’s offer to give him a ride home. The victim wrote a check to the business (MYDYNASTYSALES) to pay for his subscriptions; he later put a stop payment on the check. After the suspect left, the victim did some research. He learned the parents did not live where the suspect said they did. He looked on-line and found several complaints about this company scamming people. The money was being received, but no magazines were being sent. The victim described the male as about 5'8", 150 pounds, clean shaven, gelled, short blonde hair, with blue eyes. He was dressed like a student and was very polite. He gave the name of Patrick Kennedy. There are several individuals who have been soliciting magazines and books in this area. The pitch is pretty much the same. These people go from city to city soliciting for MYDYNASTYSALES getting people to purchase books and magazines. Once the victim hands over the money either in the form of a check or cash, they lose that money and do not receive their books and/or magazine subscription. If you go to the website (www.mydynastysales.com), you will not find any contact information for this so called corporation. There are pages and pages of complaints from people across the country who have fallen victim to this company. Any citizen who has been or is solicited by anyone representing this company is strongly urged to call the police immediately. If you have already written a check to this corporation, it is recommended that a stop payment be placed on it as soon as possible. Citizens are reminded of the county ordinance regarding the requirement for both a visible permit and ID badge for anyone soliciting in Athens-Clarke County. If you have any information on any of these persons please contact Det. Sean McCauley at 706 613-3850 ext. 141. |
