The following list is a compilation of projects submitted to the U.S. Conference of Mayors, primary interests indentified by the Mayor and Commission, and additional projects provided by Unified Government departments. The projects are listed under five broad funding categories. Project descriptions, cost estimates, and the estimated number of jobs to be created or retained will be refined further as part of the application process.

  • Athens Transit Bus Stop Improvement Program
  • Increase Fix-Route (Bus) Operating and Maintenance Funding to help stabilize fare increases; and improve reliability, and increase frequency

  • Trail Creek #3 & #4 Interceptor Sewer Project
  • Dredge Water Treatment Plant Lagoon
  • Access Bridge to North Oconee WRF
  • Extend Public Water Mains along public roadways not currently served by public water service

Poverty, Work, and Opportunity

Crime and Public Safety

  • Enhanced law enforcement opportunities
  • Integrated Criminal Justice Information System
  • New Municipal, Magistrate and Probate Courts case management systems
  • Support problem-solving courts (Felony and State Drug Courts; Mental Health Court; Domestic Violence, Protection Order, and Sexual Assault Court; Juvenile Truancy Court; Child Support Recovery, etc.)
  • Staffing support for Probation Office, Diversion Center, Pre-Trial Release Program, Clerk of Court
  • Electronic Monitoring funds - indigents, purchase of monitors, etc
  • Improve resources/services for victims of crime
  • CAD Upgrades
  • Reinstate Byrne grant for local drug task force to provide detective jobs and restrict drug sales and use
  • 27 additional police officers to reduce crime and expand CID staffing
  • Upgrade to digital video cameras for all patrol cars
  • Capital projects previously identified by staff and management
  • Replace Fire Stations #2 & #6

Arts and Tourism

Local governments that have received a NEA grant within the last four years are eligible for this funding. The Unifed Government has not received a NEA grant within the last four years.
