FACTS & ISSUES
- ARRA funding allowed the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission's Workforce Development Division to provide summer work experiences in 2009 for
approximately 800 youth, a 400% increase over 2008.
- The WIA Summer Youth
Work Experience Program serves youth residing in the 12-county Northeast
Georgia region ages 14-24 that meet program eligibility guidelines.
- In
Athens-Clarke County, ARRA funded work for 163 youth, while WIA funded work
for 25 youth during summer 2009.
- Athens-Clarke youth worked 35 hours per week for six weeks
earning $6.55 per hour in summer 2009.
- Athens-Clarke youth earned $247,032 during summer 2009 with 87% derived
from ARRA funding providing an economic impact on our local community. This
economic impact has echoed across Northeast Georgia with a total of
approximately $1,044,630 of ARRA funding earned by youth in our region.
