PROJECT II-13 - East Athens / Lay Park Community Center’s and
other Park Facility renovations
Referendum Statement: This project consists of a comprehensive renovation of the recreational, educational, and office space’s major mechanical / electrical / plumbing systems, and ADA accessibility of the existing East Athens and Thomas N. Lay Community Centers. It also includes resurfacing of the existing basketball court and replacement of the existing pool filtration system at Thomas N. Lay Park and other improvements. I includes the installation of a new water main and fire protection systems to the existing Walker Hall located at the Sandy Creek Nature Center, renovations to the Beach Area at Sandy Creek Park, and the construction of a new Animal Health Care Facility for the Bear Hollow Wildlife Trail at Memorial Park.

PROJECT CONCEPT:

  • This project is envisioned to be developed as two separate groups of Sub-Projects. Priority of funds will be for design services, construction / renovation, and purchase of Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment.
  • Group A is envisioned to consist of the renovations of the East Athens and Thomas N. Lay Park Community Centers. These renovations are envisioned to include but not be limited to redevelopment of the existing mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, making each building ADA accessible, re-organization of interior spaces, architectural enhancements and others as provided by the project budget of approximately $1,495,550 each. Group A is envisioned to be implemented as part of TIER YEAR ONE of the SP2K Master Implementation Plan.
  • Group B is envisioned to consist of the following Sub-Projects:

    • East Athens Community Center - Re-paving Basketball Court » $45,425 and Replacing Pool Filtration System » $39,725
