PROJECT #17: Athens Multimodal Transportation Center

REFERENDUM STATEMENT: - This project consists of constructing a new Transit Bus Transfer Center for ACC Buses, UGA Buses, and Inter-City Buses, Parking for approximately 100 vehicles (shared facility with the Classic Center), Commuter Rail Platform (utilized to link Athens to Atlanta by rail), Kiss and Ride drop-off area, Pedestrian Bridge Connector, and on-site infrastructure such as access roads, and utility upgrades. It will also include necessary off-site improvements to East Broad Street and Foundry Street. This project is a continuation of the existing SPLOST IV Program.

  • Budget: $7,000,000 Fixed
  • Annual Operating Expense: $ 98,000

Current Status: Phase IV - Construction

Actions Since Last Report:

Construction: Project is 92% complete

  • Package “A” (Roadway & Civil)
  • Package A.1 (Building Pad / Detention Pond / New Hickory Street) - Substantially Complete.
  • Package A.2 (East Broad Street Improvements) - Sub-Project is 90% Complete.
    • Pedestrian light bases are proceeding along with the sidewalk installation on new Hickory and E. Broad Streets.
    • Final curb and gutter work/repairs are being made.
    • Handicap ramps and sidewalks are in progress.
    • Sub-Project is projected to be complete in May 2006.
  • Package “B” (Building) - Sub-Project is 50% Complete
    • Curb and Gutter along with concrete bus bays are complete.
    • Sub base for asphalt drives is underway.
    • Site electrical is complete.
    • Cast stone and brick veneer are progressing and is about 95% complete.
    • Plumbing and HVAC rough is complete.
    • Interior gypsum drywall is approximately 90% complete.
    • Elevator equipment installation is complete.
    • Sub-Project schedule is now projected to be substantially complete by the end of April 2006.
