PROJECT II-27: NEIGHBORHOOD TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

Referendum Statement: This project consists of the installation of traffic calming devices on local residential street in Athens-Clarke County. Specific projects will be developed jointly with neighborhoods and the Traffic Engineering Division of the Transportation and Public Works Department and presented to the mayor and Commission for final approval.

Project Location: Various residential neighborhoods throughout the entire Athens-Clarke County area.

PROJECT CONCEPT:

  • This project is considered an REOCURRING Project which is envisioned to be appropriated funds on an Annual basis.
  • This project allows for the construction of traffic calming devices in residential neighborhoods that have participated through the Mayor and Commission adopted Neighborhood Traffic Management Program.
  • It is envisioned that SP2K funds will be utilized to match neighborhood / private funds for the design and construction of said improvements.
  • Traffic calming projects will be developed through the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program and submitted to the Mayor and Commission for final approval.
  • The Project’s Objective is envisioned to allow residential neighborhoods to petition for the construction of traffic calming devices in their neighborhoods to specifically address traffic concerns which the majority of owner-occupied residents desire to address.
  • Right-of-way acquisition will be evaluated and/or accomplished on a specific sub-project basis.
