Statement: As part of the renovations of the two Community Centers,
this project will provide materials, shelving, furnishings, and equipment
necessary to establish Library Resource Centers. In addition, this project
consists of acquisition of newly published materials and replacement of
older materials, therefore, increasing the Library Systems collections for
use by the Athens-Clarke County citizens.

PROJECT
CONCEPT:
- This is
a REOCURRING PROJECT and is envisioned to have funds appropriated
on an Annual basis as indicated within the SPLOST 2000 Master Implementation
plan.
- This project
is divided into two Elements:
- The
Mission of Element A (Library Resource Centers) is
envisioned to provide residents in the vicinity of the East Athens
and Thomas N. Lay Park Community Centers with access to library
materials, homework assistance, and internet resources.
- Projects
Goals are:
- 1)
Develop a basic collection of materials,
- 2)
Offer some basic training for computer users as well as childrens
story hours,
- 3)
Rotate collections to meet recreational and informational needs.
- SPLOST
2000 Project II-13 East Athens / Lay Park Community Center
is envisioned to fund necessary basic construction / renovations to
existing facility for the purpose of providing space for a Library Resource
Center at each site. This Element of this project will fund to acquire
necessary materials and resources, shelving, furnishings, and equipment
such as computers/software and security devices.
- The Mission
of Element B (Collections) is envisioned to acquire newly
published materials and replace lost and damaged materials to meet the
personal and educational needs of the citizens of Athens-Clarke County.
This is envisioned to be accomplished on an reoccurring or annual basis.
- It is
envisioned that these materials and resources be purchased exclusively
for and distributed only to various Libraries in the Athens-Clarke County
jurisdiction of the Regional Library System. Funds will be made available
on a monthly basis.
