PROJECT 15 - FIRE TRAINING CENTER Campaign Statement: Construct a comprehensive fire training center to serve professional firefighters in Athens-Clarke County and the surrounding areas. Project Location: Paradise Blvd., 13 acres, adjacent to the Clarke County Board of Education Bus Center. Original Project Budget:$ 780,000 Additional Funding: $ 778,500 (64K Fire Dept. Annual Bud.) Revised Project Budget: $1,558,500 Operating Budget Impact: $26,332.00/Year PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Training Center is envisioned to include a two story, four room, 1,200 square foot burn building, a 20’ x 20’ four story drill tower with standpipe connections on each level, and a sprinkler system on the first floor, a 10’ x 10’ flammable liquid pit, a 2,500 gallon drafting pit, and a 1,500 square foot classroom training building designed for future growth. Each Training Facility will have a 100’ x 100’ concrete apron encompassing it. The site has been identified and approved by the CEO & Commission. The site is to be a Fifteen (15) acre tract of land which is part of the Four Hundred and Thirty Four (434) acre site purchased by the Utility Division for expansion and buffer. A formal agreement between the water pollution control system and the fire department will be developed for the acquisition of the fire training site to include a site topographic / boundary survey. The project scope is proposed as the design and construction of a comprehensive Fire Training Center with the priority of funding going toward the Burn Building, Tower, and Pits first, and the classroom space as funding allows.
