PROJECT 16 - OCONEE RIVER GREENWAY-HERITAGE TRAIL
Division II-A

Campaign Statement: Acquire and begin appropriate development of the wetlands and bottom land tracts along the North Oconee River which will provide a variety of outdoor recreational and educational opportunities and safe alternative transportation including pedestrian and bicycle paths.

Project Location: Riverfront properties along the North Oconee River Corridor within the boundaries of Athens-Clarke County Urban Section.

Original Project Budget: $1,800,000

Additional Funding: $45,000

Additional Outside Funding: $560,000 (TEA Funds)

Additional SPLOST Revenue Allocated: $203,000 (Amendment 1 - June 15, 1999)

Revised Project Budget: $2,608,000

Operating Budget Impact: $30,000.00/Year

PROJECT CONCEPT: The scope of this Phase II-Division II-A Construction package consists of the following:

1. A poured concrete/asphalt multi-use bicycle/pedestrian pathway, which will provide a natural experience that will be enjoyed by many along the North Oconee River.
2. Project is to be divided into five DIVISIONS (A,B,C,D,E):

  • Stonewall and Sidewalk construction at the corner of Williams Street and Oak Street (Nuci's) is complete. Construction documents for remaining segments of connector are nearing completion. Our Land Agent has received final Options from all but two Land Owners. The project is scheduled to receive bids on November 13, 2003.
