Statement: Enhance the appearance and function of this corridor by
improving the landscaping, creating separate lanes for vehicles, pedestrians
and bicyclists and linking it with the Oconee River Greenway.

PROJECT
DESCRIPTION: Three Component Description:
- College
Station Road Gateway Corridor Improvement Component: Improvements
to the corridor include landscaping and widening from East Campus Road
to approximately 800 feet north of the North Oconee River Bridge in
order to accommodate bike lanes and turn lanes. The project will include
the following items: Construction of curb and gutter on both sides of
College Station Road; Construction of a storm drain system; Construction
of serpentine sidewalks along both sides of College Station Road; Landscaping
along both sides of road and down the median; Construction of brick
paver bus stops and handicap ramps; The resurfacing of College Station
Road within the designated project limits. Improvements to the Athens
Perimeter Highway westbound off ramps.
- East
Campus Road at College Station Road Intersection Improvement Component:
East Campus Road and College Station Road will be widened to provide
for left turn lane movement.
- Norfolk
Southern Railroad Crossing & Signalization: The existing Railroad
Crossing will need the following improvements in order to accommodate
the proposed road widening: Construction of an improved grade crossing
surface, new warning gates with signals, and new post mounted flashing
lights with bells.
- Connectivity
of Multi-modal Transportation Facilities: This project provides
more than just roadway widening and landscaping. This project will provide
connectivity between the following proposed or existing multi-modal
projects. The existing UGA Bike Path System intersects College Station
Road at East Campus Road; The Riverbend Road Bikeway will intersect
College Station Road at Riverbend Road; and the proposed UGA Greenway
Section of the North Oconee River Greenway System will intersect College
Station Road near River Road.
