21 - MULTIMODAL TRANSPORTATION CENTER Campaign Statement: Facility to be utilized by city and university bus services, taxis, airport shuttles, limousine services, pedestrians and cyclists; improve ride share opportunities; and plan for the possibility of commuter rail. Project Location: Bounded by Foundry Street and East Broad Street Original Project Budget: $ 2,566,000 Additional SPLOST Revenues Allocated: $2,000,000 (Amendment 1 - June 15, 1999) Additional Funding: SPLOST 2000 $7,000,000 Revised Project Budget: $11,566,000 Operating Budget Impact: $ 132,850.00/Year PROJECT CONCEPT: This project is proposed to consist of: ( 1 ) hiring appropriate Professional design services, ( 2 ) development of a Masterplan which includes both Intra-modal and Inter-modal modes of transportation and a Facility Program along with Site Criteria and Standards. It is the vision of this Government that these elements be utilized during the Site Selection Process to identify and recommend a specific site for the approval of the Mayor and Chair and Commission. ( 3 ) If necessary Property Acquisition will be implemented. ( 4 ) The Design of this facility will be to accommodate the two main categories of transportation, Intra-modal and Inter-modal. ( 5 ) Priority of funding for Construction will be determined as part of the Design Development process. Modes of Transportation: Intra-modal modes of transportation: UGA Bus Line, Athens Transit Line, CBD Shuttle, Taxis, Airport Shuttles, Bicycle, Private Vehicles and Pedestrians etc. Inter-modal modes of transportation: Commuter Rail, Interstate Bus lines, Southeastern Stages, etc. Preliminary Facility Program: Passenger Shared Services and Amenities: General Waiting Area, Ticketing, Information Ctr., Men’s and Women’s restrooms, Cafe with serving area, dining area and kitchen, Gift shop, Management Offices, Car Rental space, Public Phones, Lockers, Mechanical and Electrical spaces. The facility will be designed to facilitate easy future expansion. The facility may also include required parking, drop-off space, Bus Bay Platforms, Special Events Bus Queuing, Taxi Queuing and a Public Plaza. Community Facilities / Network: Multimodal Transportation Center concept will be flexible and could accommodate separate supplementary transportation facilities at locations to be determined during the design development. Since the current cost estimate for this facility is *$8.9 million dollars, and the total SPLOST budget amount is $2.56 million dollars, additional funding will most likely be required to complete this project. SPLOST Funding for this project will be utilized as outlined above.
