About Athens-Clarke County Extension
Athens-Clarke County Extension is the local office of the statewide County Extension System. It is a cooperative venture between the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and the University of Georgia. Athens-Clarke County Extension provides education and information for all citizens of Athens-Clarke County in the areas of agriculture, horticulture, the environment, families, food and nutrition, and financial security.
Our mission is to extend lifelong learning to Georgia citizens through unbiased, research-based education in agriculture, the environment, communities, youth, and families.

Green Thumb Lecture Series
From February through November, Athens-Clarke County Extension is offering free monthly gardening classes. These classes take place at the Athens-Clarke County Extension office (275 Cleveland Road) from 6:00 -7:30 p.m.
Intended for gardeners of all experience and skill levels, the monthly classes will cover a variety of topics such as seasonal vegetable gardening, composting, beekeeping, and more. Registration is required.
June session: The June session of the Green Thumb Lecture series will be offered online using Zoom (for more information about Zoom, visit zoom.com). Anyone is welcome to attend. The June 10 presentation will be on water wise gardening. Water management is a critical component for the successful gardener. Join us as we discuss the importance of water conservation, methods for stewarding water efficiently in your garden and ways to manage loss to evaporation. The Zoom meeting will open at 5:45 pm and we will have the lecture and questions go until 7:30 pm. Please make sure to register by June 9 as you will be emailed the Zoom link to attend the online meeting. We will also send a link for a follow-up survey for your feedback. We hope you can attend! July Session: The subject for our July 8 session is "Getting Along with Garden Bugs". The July lecture will also be presented via zoom. Topics to be addressed include beneficial and damaging insects. Please be sure to register in order to receive class materials.
August Session: "Fall Vegetable Gardening" on August 12.
