Athens-Clarke County Extension is the local office of the statewide County Extension System. It is a cooperative venture between the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and the University of Georgia. Athens-Clarke County Extension provides education and information for all citizens of Athens-Clarke County in the areas of agriculture, horticulture, the environment, families, food and nutrition, and financial security.
Our mission is to extend lifelong learning to Georgia citizens through unbiased, research-based education in agriculture, the environment, communities, youth, and families.

Green Thumb Lecture Series
From February through November, Athens-Clarke County Extension is offering free monthly gardening classes. These classes take place at the Athens-Clarke County Extension office (275 Cleveland Road) from 6:00 -7:30 p.m.
Intended for gardeners of all experience and skill levels, the monthly classes will cover a variety of topics such as seasonal vegetable gardening, composting, beekeeping, and more. Registration is required.
The 2020 series will kick off on Wednesday, February 12 with "Pruning 101". This class will feature information on the importance of pruning, which plants need pruning and the optimal time, techniques, and the proper equipment and how to maintain it. Register by February 11.
The 2020 series will begin with a launch party with snacks and door prizes at 5:30 with class beginning at 6:00 pm.
