Project 1: Airport Capital Improvements Program (CIP) Matching Funds

Project Details

Project 01 will include the design and construction of capital improvement projects at the Athens-Ben Epps Airport as listed in the Airport's Capital Improvement Plan, as may be amended from time to time. This funding may be used to match funding for state and/or federal grants for these projects. The projects generally include Runway/Taxiway Reconstruction/ Rehabilitation/ Improvements, Apron Paving, Terminal Improvements, new parking, storm drainage associate with paving, and other preventive maintenance, reconstruction, and rehabilitation activities for airport pavement. Potential matching funds from GDOT of $24 million dollars and from FAA of $5.5 million. 

Project Updates 

The project is at Substantial Completion with all paving, lighting, signage and grassing complete.  The final  markings are complete, and the runway is fully functional. Only minor portions of the project remain such as relocating  an antenna and some drainage work. Final completion is expected summer of 2019.
