82: Trail Creek Park - Phase III Implementation

Project Description from submission form

This project is aimed at completing construction outlined in the updated Trail Creek Park Master Plan as approved by Mayor and Commission in 2017. Construction additions include a mountain bike pump track and associated skills course, a large pavilion with restrooms, a lighted basketball court, a playground with restrooms, additional parking spaces with a bioretention swale to improve stormwater quality, and traffic calming devices to mitigate accidents due to increased traffic.

The mountain bike pump track will meet a critical need of a mountain bike skills facility that currently does not exist in Athens-Clarke County. A pump track is a mountain bike skills course that allows users to safely develop their skills on a closed course. Pump tracks are becoming very popular in many communities including Atlanta, Roswell, Augusta, and Commerce. The pump track will be located adjacent to a basketball court and large pavilion which will promote a crossover of user groups, especially teens and young adults. The pavilion and associated amenities will create a new hub in Trail Creek Park that activates a currently unused part of the park. It will also act as a connection between the parking areas, fields, and mountain bike trails. Additional parking is needed at Trail Creek Park because increased usership is putting a strain on current parking infrastructure. Traffic calming devices will also help to mitigate the impacts of increased traffic in the park.
