"Perennial Pattern" Exhibition at Lyndon House Arts Center
Thursday, November 8, 2018
The Lyndon House Arts Center announces "Perennial Pattern," an exhibition and collaboration by artists Sara Parker and Simon Hunt.
"Perennial Pattern" by Sara Parker and Simon Hunt, is a body of 22 screen-printed-monoprints, each a result of a process of deconstruction and play. Using leftover ink from past projects and our original large- scale repeat patterns, we set out to create monoprints that resemble some form of the natural world – whether a river bottom, a vining trellis, or dappled sunlight in the forest. While each concept is agreed upon in advance, improvisation and play is required at every stage of creation. This childlike sense of creating art, in conjunction with our formal training, creates unexpected layers, textures, and color overlays that entices us to experience each work from a variety of distances and frames of mind.
Sara Parker is co-owner and designer at Sara Parker Textiles and Maisilene, an Athens based screen printing company providing eco-conscious and sustainable fabrics and accessories. Simon is co-owner of Sara Parker Textiles and Maisilene. He attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with an emphasis in fiber art and film. Simon is the head of Database Maintenance at the University of Georgia Libraries.
