The Athens Cultural Affairs Commission (ACAC) seeks qualified candidates to fill 3-year volunteer positions.
The mission of ACAC is to foster the development and enjoyment of performing, visual, cultural, and other arts in the Athens-Clarke County community and to make recommendations to the Mayor and Commission in as many areas of Athens-Clarke County planning and development as possible. Additionally, the Athens Public Art Master Plan is posted online and serves as a guiding document for future work.
ACAC meets on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Additional committee work is conducted between these meetings. Applicants must be Athens-Clarke County residents. It is also necessary that applicants have expertise or demonstrated interest in the arts, public administration, community engagement, outreach, grant writing, and/or arts education and arts advocacy. In the past year, the ACAC has commissioned 44 artworks (with 75% of these going to local artists), including the Hot Corner mural downtown and the artistic bus shelters throughout the community.
The deadline for receiving applications is November 30, 2019. ACAC will offer invitations to selected applicants for brief interviews in early December 2019. After making a final selection, ACAC will send a recommendation for appointments to the Mayor and Commission. Volunteer terms will begin as soon as approved.
