Celebrate the Arts!

Online registration continues for a variety of arts programs scheduled for the winter.

Dance classes at the East Athens Educational Dance Center, art classes at the Lyndon House Arts Center, and theatrical programs through Athens Creative Theatre all have openings.

Add a little creativity to your new year!

Unleash Your Inner Athlete

The Leisure Services Department continues online registration for youth sports programs.

Youth Basketball is available for ages 6-13, where players will learn to develop and apply fundamental skills.  
Tennis programs are available for individuals, ages 5-16, of all skill levels and take place at the Athens-Clarke County Tennis Center and Bishop Park.

Prefer a little variety in the area of sports?  Then try “Sportstime”  a co-ed program, for ages 3-4, where children will participate in games, drills, and relay races to introduce the player to a variety of sports, as well as basic rules and fundamental skills.

It's Not Easy Being Green...

The Leisure Services Department offers "Frog Watch Training"  in January at Sandy Creek Nature Center.

Do you enjoy listening to frogs calling? Learn to identify and count frogs as part of this citizen science program. Individuals may participate at their own home or join the SCNC monitoring team. The monitoring season is February through August. Attendance for both nights is required to complete the training. 

This program is for ages 13 and older and takes place Thursdays, January 14 and 21 from 6-8:30 PM at the Nature Center.  The program is free of charge, but you must register to participate.  Online registration is underway.

Grab the popcorn!  If you missed, or just want to experience it again, theDowntown Parade of Lights 2015 can now be viewed online.

Watch the entire parade from the comfort of your home!  There were more than 1,300 people in the parade as it moved through Downtown Athens - and you have the best view to see all of them  -  right from you home.

Holiday Hours

On New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1 all park grounds will operate under reduced hours of 11 AM – 5 PM with all facilities closed. 

Regular hours of operation for all parks and facilities will resume Saturday, January 2, 2016.
