A New Park!

The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and open the newly completed Boulevard Woods Park on Thursday, February 4 at 2 PM. The public is invited to attend. Attendees will assemble at the park’s entrance at 298 Barber St (Boulevard at Barber Street).

The Boulevard Woods Park is a heavily-wooded 1.8 acre site. The lot was originally donated to the former City of Athens by W.H. Benson in 1967, and has been vacant and unused since that time.  Located at the top of Boulevard, the site will serve as a neighborhood focal point with the potential to be integrated into a future greenway network and/or a rails-to-trails project.

The park is passive in nature and features a small paved walking loop, a bench, and an open lawn area. Sit walls built along the walking loop allow viewing into the wooded back portion of the park.

For more information on the opening of the Boulevard Woods Park, please call 706-613-3800.

Tell Us What You Think...

The Leisure Services Department will host open houses for the public to review and comment on the schematic designs created for the Whit Davis Children's Park at Southeast Clarke Park.

The open houses are scheduled for Wednesday, February 17 and Thursday, February 18 from 6–7:30 PM at Whit Davis Elementary School.  The schematic design and input survey will be available online at  from February 17–21.

The schematic designs were created following last summer’s public input sessions where ideas and recommendations were obtained from the public regarding the design to replace the World of Wonder play space.  Citizens are encouraged to attend and learn more about this project.
