The Leisure Services Department will host an Open House "Trains, Bikes, and Yoga- Choose Your Outdoor Hobby" on Saturday, April 30 from 1- 4 p.m. at Sandy Creek Nature Center. Join us for an afternoon of outdoor hobbies.

Go for a naturalist led bike ride, follow a train through the garden, and practice animal inspired yoga to gain new ideas for hobbies you would like to do outdoors.  Additional activities include geocaching tips, snake search hike, and creating nature art.

This event is free of charge and registration is not required. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Get Ready!

He's yellow, 11 feet tall, and full of water!

It is time for the Trail Creek Park Splash Pad to open!  It will open Saturday, May 7 and remain open, weekends only, from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

After Memorial Day, the Splash Pad will assume its regular summer season hours of operation of Tuesday-Sunday from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

The splash pad fee is $1 per person (cash only).  Pool passes may be used at splash pads, as well.  Family of Four Pool Passes are available for $40 and an Individual Pool Pass is $20.  Pool passes are available for purchase at the Splash Pad.

Show Us Your Good Grades

The Department continues the Report Card Rewards Program -  celebrating students with good grades.

In order to be eligible, any student, Kindergarten through 12th grade, who resides in Athens-Clarke County must take a copy of his/her final report card or equivalent to the ACC Aquatics Office Monday-Friday: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The Aquatics Office is located at the Bishop Park gym.

A report card with all A's or all E's guarantees a free summer pool pass. A report card with all A's and B's, or all E's and M's, is good for 10 free swims.  Pool passes may be used at all Department pools and splash pads.

Do I Have a Volunteer?  Yes, We Do!

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the  Department recently held its annual volunteer appreciation picnic at Sandy Creek Park.

As part of the event, nine volunteers were individually recognized for their contributions across the Department.
A ceremonial check for $470,000 was presented to Mayor Nancy Denson, representing the value of over 20,000 volunteer hours contributed in 2015.
