Roll Out the Barrels 2016 was a Success!

On May 26, families and friends gathered at the Southern Brewing Company to bid on one-of-a-kind, functional pieces of art at Roll Out the Barrels, an annual event that raises awareness of runoff, water pollution, and water conservation, all while promoting local art and supporting environmental education. Thanks to the generous support of local artists and event attendees, 20 barrels were bid on and $1,500 was raised to promote environmental education in Athens-Clarke County!

This event is organized by the Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Management Program and Water Conservation Office, with help from Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful, Athens Paint & Body, Goodie Two-Shoes, and Southern Brewing Company.

Thanks to the fabulous artists: Maggie Baxter, Cameron Bliss, Kayla Cox, Zoe Daniel, Thomas Easton, Will Eskridge, Robin Fay, Lauren Geitner, Lyndsy Harrison, Alea Hurst, David Hyde, Cindy Jamison and Teresa Yoder, Maria Mueller, Whitney Osborne, Chico Rozier, Russ Sanders, Dan Smith, Ansley Sproull, Lily Swindle, and Chris Taylor!

ACC Stormwater Welcomes New Program Education Specialist, Cecile Riker

We are excited to have Cecile Riker joining the ACC Stormwater team as the new Program Education Specialist. Cecile recently finished a Master's Degree in Public Administration at the University of Georgia and has interned with several partner organizations, including Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful and the ACC Water Conservation Office. She has been living in Athens since 2010 and is excited to merge her interests in environmental sustainability with planning and stormwater management. When she's not at work, you can find her in a dance class at DanceFX, volunteering for local nonprofits, hanging out with her awesome boyfriend Kyle, or walking her sister's dog.

Summer Camp Outreach

ACC Stormwater will be providing enrichment activities for several different youth camps this summer, including UGA's Camp DIVE, Sandy Creek Day Camp, and ACC Leisure Services' Teens in Action. We look forward to stenciling storm drains and teaching campers about polluted stormwater runoff and the water cycle.
