Get in Shape at the Pool!

The Leisure Services Department offers special aquatics fitness programs this summer.  Everyone can get fit at the pool!  

“Aqua Aerobics” is a low impact exercise session at the Memorial Park pool.  Participants, ages 18 and older, will experience a variety of stretching, limbering, and weight routines set to music. This summer workout programs take place through August 6 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays from 6 - 7 PM., and Saturdays from 10 – 11 AM.  The fee is $5 per person, per session or a five-class punch card is available for $20. Registration and payment, in cash or check only, is accepted on-site prior to the start of each class. 

“Adult Lap Swim,” for ages 18 years and older, is offered at the Bishop Park pool. Adults will have the opportunity to swim laps in the Olympic-sized pool with a certified lifeguard on duty.   “Adult Lap Swim” takes place Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays through August 5 from 6:30 - 7:30 AM. and 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM. The fee is $55 for ACC residents and $83 for non-county residents. Online registration is required.

The Department presents a special group of summer art exhibitions at Lyndon House Arts Center.
The Georgia Museum of Art  and the Lyndon House will collaborate on an exhibition of works by contemporary Georgia printmakers: “Pushing the Press: Printmaking in the South.”

Another summer exhibition, an expansive notion of printmaking at the Lyndon House, is entitled “Multiple” feature pieces by three young artists working in the field of paper and the printed image.

Additionally, the Athens Neighborhoods: Double Dutch Press screen print series will be on view at the Lyndon House.  From Normaltown to the Eastside, Boulevard to Five Points, these wonderful images bring color and fun to any neighborhood.

Finally, “There Again," is a site specific installation created especially for the Lyndon House by artists Jon Swindler and Michael McFalls, which is a combination of discreet works, as well as a large site-specific installation incorporating a variety of media. 

These exhibitions will be on view through August 6 during regular gallery hours of Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 9 PM and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9 AM – 5 PM.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Admission is free.

By the Light of the Moon...

The Department presents the “Friday Night Paddles” program at Sandy Creek Park.

The community is invited to experience the moon on Lake Chapman and paddle around the lake during this evening program. Participants may use one of the park’s canoes or kayaks, or bring their own.

The program is scheduled for Fridays, June 17; July 8 or 25; August 5 or 19 from 8-10 PM.  The program is for ages 18 years and older.  The fee is $8 for ACC residents and $12 for non-county residents. Online registration is required.

The British are Coming...for Soccer Camp!

Online registration continues for British Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp.  

Challenger Sports' British Soccer Camp, at Southeast Clarke Park, is the most popular soccer camp in the country based upon one of the most innovative approaches to coaching youth soccer in the US and Canada.

The experienced staff study the game at all levels and will help players improve their core techniques and become more confident on the ball. With programs for each age, there will be a variety of foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, freestyle soccer, small-sided games and coached scrimmages.

World Cup style games are held each day where campers compete for their adopted country and are encouraged to learn about different customs and cultures, and the core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership.
