Picture This - You Registering for a Fall Program!


Fall online registration is underway.

Adult art classes at the Lyndon House Arts Center include Beginning Enamel, Black and White Photography, Introduction to Drawing, and many others.

Looking to try a new sport this fall?  Hit the courts and register for a youth or adult tennis program! Additionally, soccer registration has been extended for 4 year olds, U7, and U9 until Wednesday, August 17 at 11:45 PM. U11 and U13 registration is accepted until Friday, August 19. 

If this is your first time registering online, you must establish a free online account at www.athensclarkecounty.com/leisure.  Payment may be rendered using a debit card, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card. 

Individuals who do not have access to a computer or smart phone may register online using the computer labs at East Athens Community Center, Lay Park, or Rocksprings Park during regular hours of operation.

Those wishing to apply for a scholarship must do so at least five business days prior to registering for a program.

Walk on the Wild Side...


Make tracks to Bear Hollow Zoo in Memorial Park for Zoo Day 2016: Code Quest! on Saturday, August 27 from noon – 3 PM.  

This year, participants will play the role of a brand new zookeeper who has forgotten their keys. There is a spare set in the zoo safe, but you must collect the clues around the zoo to learn the code! Challenges, arts and crafts, animal encounters, exhibitors, concessions and more await participants. This is a family-friendly event. 

The fee for this event is $2 per person for Athens-Clarke County residents and $3 per person for non-residents.  Children under the age of 2 are admitted free of charge.

It's a Dog's Life...


The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will host a “Who Let the Dogs Out” program on Wednesday, August 31 from 4-5:30 PM at Sandy Creek Nature Center.

The trails are not just for people!  The public is invited to bring their dog (on a leash) and enjoy a hike. Nature Center staff will lead the walk which includes trail etiquette for people and canines. Registration is not required for this program.

Art to be Seen!


Abandoned Rural America is a group of artists whose subject matter addresses changing landscapes and the transition of family farms. Organized in 2011 by Peter Muzyka, the group has grown to include over 30 artists, writers, and musicians.

Abandoned Rural America’s visual artists use a wide variety of media including ceramics, fiber arts, egg tempera,photography, and watercolor.  Images in the exhibit include fallow fields, ramshackle barns, rusting farm implements, and vacant farmhouses.

Abandoned Rural America’s five year anniversary exhibit opens Saturday, August 20 and continues through Thursday, October 20 at Lyndon House Arts Center.

All Lyndon House exhibitions are free and open to the public during regular gallery hours of Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-9 PM, and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9 AM-5 PM.  Lyndon House is closed on UGA home football game days.

Stay cool as summer wraps up!
The Trail Creek Park Splash Pad remains open, weekends only, through Labor Day.

Operating hours are 10 AM - 5:30 PM.  Admission is $1 per person.
