The Leisure Services Department will host two public information open house sessions regarding the Firefly Trail in Athens-Clarke County. Meetings are scheduled for Monday, October 3 at the Winterville Depot and Monday, October 17 at the East Athens Community Center.  Both meetings take place  6-8 PM.

The Firefly Trail is a 39 mile long multi-use trail project that stretches from downtown Athens to Union Point.  The proposed trail follows an abandoned railroad corridor (rail to trail) and provides trail users with a unique experience as it is proposed to pass through the cities of Winterville, Arnoldsville, Crawford, Stephens, Maxeys, and Woodville.  The trail corridor itself is gentle in grade and allows for use by people of all ages and abilities.

Department staff will provide information regarding the Firefly Trail and the status of the project. The proposed route and information on construction standards will be available.
Please visit the Department’s Park Planning website for the latest information regarding this project or call 706-613-3801.
