Lights Everywhere!

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will host “Deck the Hollow” Holiday Lights at Bear Hollow Zoo at Memorial Park from December 8-11 and 15-18. This event takes place nightly from 5:30 - 7:30 PM.
The community is invited to celebrate the holidays in lights.  Activities include animal encounters,craft activity, live music, and photo opportunities in the zoo illuminated with holiday lights.  Concessions will be available for purchase. The public is encouraged to share their photos from the event using #learncreateplay. 

Admission fee is $3 per person, children ages two and younger are admitted free of charge.  Registration is not required.

The Leisure Services Department will host a public input session regarding the Tallassee Tract Master Plan on Tuesday, December 13 from 6-8 PM at the Planning Department Auditorium located at 120 West Dougherty Street.  

This meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to view the draft master plan map for the site and provide feedback on the concept. Staff will be making a short presentation at the beginning of the session followed by breakouts for an open house style review of the plan.

The  Leisure Services Department will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony officially dedicating the new World of Wonder (WOW) Park at Southeast Clarke Park located at 325 Whit Davis Rd.  A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Friday, December 16 at 3:30 PM.  Families are encouraged to attend.

The impressive new playground includes ten slides featuring a three-story Slide Tower which is the park’s tallest element.  The new play area also includes a Biba Activated Playground (augmented reality gameplay experience), climbing rock wall, a two story Dynamo Apollo Spinner and a rope web climber.  The swing areas include standard swings, as well as co-ride parent/child generational swings, swings for individuals with mobility impairment, and park bench swings for parents.

The WOW Park is the largest play area in the Leisure Services park system. The equipment is designed for agility, balance, imagination, motion, tactile/sensory experience, social engagement, and upper body strength.  It offers a variety of play experiences, both passive and active and is located near a wooded passive play area, as well.
