The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will host a tree planting as part of the Managed Forest Program on Saturday, March 4 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Sandy Creek Nature Center.

Be part of a forest plan for the future!  As we continue work on the managed forest, our staff needs help replanting trees. No experience is necessary and all tools are provided. Volunteers must wear sturdy shoes and be ready to work outside. Families are welcome. Volunteers may help for a while or stay the entire day. Snacks will be provided.

What's My Line?

Athens Creative Theatre will hold auditions for its upcoming “Old Time Radio” reader’s theatre for adults and seniors. Auditions will take place Monday, March 6 and Tuesday, March 7 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m at Quinn Hall at Memorial Park. 

ACT is proud to revive their "Old Time Radio" series, including radio shows such as the LUX Radio Hour, the CBS Mystery Hour with tales from Sherlock Holmes, The Inner Sanctum, Crime Club and others.

Minimal rehearsals will be held on weeknights at Quinn Hall.  Show dates are scheduled for April 27-30.

Sports Aren't Just for Kids..

The Leisure Services Department will offer an Adult Volleyball League this spring at East Athens Community Center.

The Adult Volleyball League games will be played Sunday afternoons starting March 12.  Games times are at 3:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. Participants must be 17 years of age or older.    

Registration is by team and not individual. Team rosters may consist of 4-10 players. Those who do not have a team will have the option of participating on the Free Agent team by calling 706-613-3593.  The fee is $30 per team.  Online registration is underway.

Additionally,we will host a 3 x 3 Adult Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 18 at the community center.

The format will be “double elimination” and first to score 21 point/12 minute game clock wins.  Team check in is 9:00 – 9:30 a.m.  The tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. Teams may have a maximum of five players and participants must be at least 17 years old.  Players who do not have a team, may participate on the Free Agent team by contacting the community center at 706-613-3593.  The fee is $30 per team.  Registration deadline is March 12.  Online registration is underway.

Calling All Homeschoolers!

Lay Park will host “Outside the Box” program this spring. This program is for children, ages 8-14 years, and is designed for homeschoolers, providing an additional educational/fun outlet. Activities include fun and unique gymnasium games.

These programs are scheduled for Thursdays, March 16 and May 11, and take place from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

The program fee is $5 for Athens-Clarke County residents and $7.50 for non-residents per session.  Online registration is underway.
