Happy Birthday!


The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will present a special birthday party for Bear Hollow Zoo’s resident bears Athena, DJ and Yonah.  

Bear Hollow Zoo will host this special birthday celebration Saturday, April 1 from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. The bears’ cake and presents will be delivered at 12:30 p.m.

The community is invited to join this celebration and watch the bears unwrap their presents and enjoy their cake.  A birthday card will be available to be signed by well-wishers, as well as crafts, and special birthday treats. This program is free and open to the public.

Camp

Get Read for Summer!


The Leisure Services Department announces its slate of summer camp programs for 2017. The Department offers the most diverse selection of award winning summer camps in Northeast Georgia including traditional day camps and mini camps highlighting art, nature education, sports, and theatre.  Opportunities are available for children from ages 4-16.

Camp listings are now available.  Online registration will take place at www.athensclarkecounty.com/leisure. Online registration begins Saturday, April 8 at 9 a.m. for Athens-Clarke County residents.  Non-residents may register beginning Monday, April 10 at noon. Parents who have not already established a free online account, are encouraged to do so at www.athensclarkecounty.com/leisure. 

Scholarships are available for qualifying ACC residents.  Parents who wish to apply for a scholarship must do so in person at a Leisure Services Department facility office.  Applicants must apply for a scholarship at least five business days prior to registering for a program or camp.  Applicants must have a valid email address.  More information, including required documentation, is available at www.athensclarkecounty.com/scholarship

Easter Eggs

Egg-citing Events


East Athens Community Center will host an egg hunt on Saturday, April 8 from 10:00 a.m. - noon.  The event, for ages Kindergarten-5th Grade, includes arts and crafts followed by an egg hunt, with participants divided into age groups.  The program is free of charge and registration is not required.  For more information call 706-613-3593.

Lay Park  will host the “Easter Egg Scramble” on Saturday, April 8 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. This special holiday program is for ages 2-10.  The event includes inflatables, an egg hunt, and refreshments.  Children must bring their own baskets.  The program is free of charge and registration is not required.  For more information, pleasecall 706-613-3596.

“Easterpalooza” at Rocksprings Park is set for Monday, April 10 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Parents and or grandparents will have the opportunity to have a little Easter fun with their pre-schooler.  The Easter Bunny will be on hand, so bring your camera!  Participants will play games, make an Easter craft, and enjoy a little bunny snack.  The fee is $4 for ACC residents and $6 for non-residents.  Online registration is required and is underway. 

Memorial Park will host its annual “Breakfast with the Bunny” on Saturday, April 15 in the recreation hall. This family event includes breakfast, crafts, and a photo with the Easter Bunny.  The  9:00 – 9:45 a.m. session still has limited openings.  The fee is $5 per person for ACC residents and $7.50 for non-residents.  Children ages 2 and younger are admitted free of charge.  Online registration is required and is underway  Pre-registration is required by April 10.  For more information, please call 706-613-3580.

Rocksprings Park  will host an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 15 at 9:30 a.m.  This program, for toddlers to age 12, features a traditional egg hunt with prizes. Wilma
Have a Look...

The Lounge Gallery at the Lyndon House Arts Center, features quarterly solo exhibitions by emerging artists. Artists in the beginning stages of their careers are invited to show wall-bound works in media alternating from drawing to painting to photography to printmaking. 

Wilma is a long time resident of Athens, Georgia.  Her first visual art exhibit will feature photographs created utilizing a unique technique developed by the artist. Wilma’s exhibit will continue through April 20. Wilma will speak about her work during the Third Thursday artist talk on April 20 at 6:00 p.m.

All Lyndon House exhibitions are free and open to the public, however children must be accompanied by an adult.  Gallery hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon - 9:00 p.m. and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
