Greenway Expansion Celebration Today at 5:30 p.m.
It’s a Greenway celebration and everyone is invited! The Oconee Rivers Greenway Commission and the Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will host a “Greenway Expansion Celebration” on Wednesday, May 17 at 5:30 p.m.
Enjoy a lovely spring evening on the University of Georgia’s School of Social Work’s beautiful deck which overlooks the Oconee River and is near the next phase of the Greenway expansion. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the river and indulge in some ice cream during the special celebration only feet away from the next phase of the Greenway development. The UGA’s School of Social Work is located at 279 Williams Street.
The current Greenway system includes 3.75 miles of multi-use trail and 12 miles of foot trails, but that is just the beginning of this important green infrastructure. The entire community is invited to attend and learn about the future of the Greenway as it expands southward.
The gathering will highlight current construction on the North Oconee Greenway Path Extension, a 3-mile multi-use trail that connects Oconee Street to College Station Road, Barnett Shoals Road and Research Drive as well as another mile of trails that connect Oconee Street Park and Ride to the Greenway, the Firefly Trail, and a new bridge to East Campus.
