Tell Us What You Think...


The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will host review sessions of the Draft Master Plan for Bishop Park.  Drop in sessions will be held on the following dates:


Wednesday, June 7 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Bishop Park Conference Room.

Saturday, June 10 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Farmer’s Market at Bishop Park.

Monday, June 12 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Bishop Park Conference Room.

The review sessions will be a drop-in format, with staff available to answer questions about the proposed master plan.  All sessions are open to the public and will be held at Bishop Park located at 705 Sunset Drive.

Exhibit

Have a Look...


Take a break from the heat and view these amazing exhibitions at Lyndon House Arts Center.  

Summer of Correspondence: Five Exhibits  focus on notions of communication, spirituality, community, and dedication. Each of these exhibits were selected from Exhibition Proposals, a twice yearly opportunity for Athens area artists to submit their work for consideration. The artists reception is set for Thursday, June 15 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

These exhibitions include Beloved Land: a Series by David Hale on view in the Lower Atrium and West Upper Atrium through July 22, 2017. In Wood and Word: Bible Scenes carved by Cal Logue also on view through July 22, 2017 in the East Upper Atrium  The final exhibit is To & Fro: Correspondence Art by Jack Logan and Kosmo Vinyl is in the West Gallery through July 29.

All exhibitions are free and open to the public during regular gallery hours of Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 9:00 p.m., and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Memorial Park

We Need Your Input!


The Department will host visioning sessions for Memorial Park.  Participants will break into small groups and discuss the future of the park, what they like and dislike, and share experiences that will help inform Park Planners as they develop revitalization concepts for the park.  

The public is invited to participate in one of the following workshops: Monday, June 19 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.; Wednesday, June 21 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., or Saturday, June 24 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

All sessions are open to the public and will take place in the Memorial Park Recreation Hall located at 293 Gran Ellen Drive.

Daddy and Me

Daddy and Me...


The Department will host its inaugural “Daddy Daughter Dance” event on Saturday, June 17 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the East Athens Community Center.  

Fathers and their daughters are invited to celebrate Father’s Day a little early at this special event.  The program features music for both generations geared for dads or father figures and daughters.  The evening includes a dance contest, keepsake photo, musical games, and refreshments.  Each daughter will receive a goodie bag.  Attire is business casual to semi-formal.  

The fee is $25 for each father and daughter pair. A $5 fee for each additional particiipant may be paid at the door.  Online registration is required and is underway.

Star Spangled Classic

Calling All Patriots!


The Star Spangled Classic is back!  This family friendly Independence Day celebration will take place Saturday, July 1 in Downtown Athens.

Activities begin at 5:00 p.m. and includes live music, children’s activities, and food trucks. The highlight of the evening will be a fabulous fireworks display scheduled for approximately 9:30 p.m.  This event is free of charge.

The community is invited to celebrate 241 years of American independence with this family friendly event in historic downtown.
