ACC Leisure Services Announces
Scholarship Program Changes

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department announces important changes to its scholarship program effective July 1, 2017.

The ACC Mayor and Commission voted in March to modify the program that provides discounts for youth programs to qualifying ACC residents.

The changes include revised scholarship levels of 25%, 50%, and 75% only.  The 100% scholarship no longer exists.  Also, a $400 annual cap per child is now in effect, this establishes a maximum amount one child can use each year through the scholarship program. The final change is that a recent utility bill (last 90 days) and IRS Tax Form 1040 (with children listed) are now required documentation in addition to a photo ID.

Hardship procedures are in place for those who do not have the necessary paperwork. Those individuals are required to contact the Department’s Budget Technician at 706-552-0462, ext. 21 to schedule an appointment in order to discuss alternative options. The hardship procedures are in place to address the lack of necessary paperwork, not to appeal the amount of the scholarship award issued by the Department. The amount of the award cannot be appealed.

Scholarships may be renewed or applied for at any Leisure Services Department facility office and take at least five business days to process.

All scholarships expire June 30 and must be renewed annually.

Parents are reminded to renew or apply for a scholarship now, if they wish to use it for the Fall 2017 online registration which begins Saturday, August 5 at 9:00 a.m. for Athens-Clarke County residents.
