Time to Register!

The Leisure Services Department announces its fall program opportunities for 2017.

A diverse selection highlighting the arts, environmental science, recreation, sports, and holiday events are planned for adults and children.

Online program registration for Athens-Clarke County residents will open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 5.  Non-residents may register online starting Monday, August 7 at noon.  All registration takes place at 

Before registering, individuals who have not already done so must establish a free online account at Payment may be rendered using a debit card, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card. 

New scholarship applicants and individuals with expired scholarships must visit a Leisure Services Department facility office to apply for a scholarship or to renew an expired one. This must be done at least five business days prior to registering for a program and scholarships may not be applied for online.  Information regarding scholarship program changes, including required documentation, is available at 

Individuals who do not have access to a computer may register online using the computer labs at East Athens Community Center at 400 McKinley Dr., Lay Park at 297 Hoyt St., or Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Ext. during regular hours of operation.

Dive In, One Last Time...

All Department pools, located at Bishop Park, East Athens Community Center, Lay Park, Memorial Park, and Rocksprings Park will close for the season on Sunday, August 6, at 5:30 p.m.  The Rocksprings Park Splash Pad will close for the season, as well.
The Trail Creek Park Splash Pad, located at 200 Trail Creek Street, will remain open, weekends only, August 7 through Labor Day, September 4 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Admission is $1 per person.

A Christmas Story

What's My Line?

Athens Creative Theatre (ACT) is thrilled to bring "A Christmas Story" The Musical to the stage here in Athens.  This production is a stage musical adaptation of the popular film by the same name. Featuring music and lyrics by Pasek & Paul and book by Joseph Robinette.

The musical takes place in the 1940s in Indiana and focuses on a child named Ralphie, who wants a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Performances will be November 9-12, 2017 at the historic Morton Theatre.

Auditions will be held Monday, August 7 and Tuesday, August 8 from 6:00 – 8:00 Quinn Hall at Memorial Park at 293 Gran Ellen Drive.

Get in the Game!

The Department continues adult sports registration online.
Adult Soccer features all co-ed teams. The season takes place Thursdays, starting August 24 from 6:30- 9:30 p.m. at Trail Creek Park.  The fee is $400 per team. Online registration is underway and ends Monday, August 14 at 5:00 p.m.

It's a Dog's Life...

The Department will host “Who Let the Dogs Out?” program on Saturday, August 12 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Sandy Creek Nature Center (SCNC).

The trails are not just for people!  The public is invited to bring a dog and enjoy a hike at SCNC. Staff will lead the walk including trail etiquette for people and canines. Registration is not required for this program.
