Hey Coach!

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department continues online registration for fall sports programs.

The youth soccer program is available for ages 4-12 and takes place atSoutheast Clarke Park.  This program is designed for players to learn, develop, and apply fundamental skills.  The season takes place September 5-October 21.  The fee is $65 for ACC residents and $98 for non-residents.

Tennis programs are also available for individuals, ages 5-16, and take place at the Athens-Clarke County Tennis Center  as well as Bishop Park.  Instruction is designed for beginners and intermediates.  The season is September 6-December 6. Each six-week session costs $60 for ACC residents and $90 for non-residents.

Just Dance ...

It's time to try something new!  When is the last time you took a dance class - or danced?  The time is now!

The East Athens Educational Dance Center offers a wide selection of classes, for the beginner as well as the advanced student, in a variety of disciplines.

The dance program selection includes  ballet, modern dance, tap, and others.  New programs include Drum and Dance for Young Men and Adult Introduction to Stretch. Classes begin in early September. Complete dance descriptions are available

Get Fit!

Get in shape this fall with these amazing workout programs at East Athens Community Center.

Zumba is a dance fitness party offered on Mondays and Saturdays that combines low-impact dance moves with upbeat and rhythmic Latin music. This program is led by certified Zumba instructor, Collisa Lankford.

Zumba is for ages 16 and older and takes place Monday, August 14 - November 6 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays, August 19-November 11 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.  The fee is $5 per session for ACC residents or $7.50 non-residents.
Bootcamp is a challenging but fun evening workout that uses circuit training and intervals to help improve your heart and muscular health! Each workout is open to all fitness levels and can be modified to fit any current health journey. This program is led by certified instructor, Jordon Morales, who will help you transform your fitness.  

Boot camp is for ages 18 and older and takes place Wednesdays, September 6 - October 25, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.  The fee is $5 per class or all eight classes for $30.

A Total Eclipse!

Are you ready for this once in a lifetime event?
The Leisure Services Department will help you experience this amazing eclipse at one of the most historic locations in town - City Hall!

Sandy Creek Nature Center (SCNC) staff will have safe viewing for the Solar Eclipse on Monday, August 21 from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. on the lawn of City Hall. Bring your lunch and take in the eclipse!

Staff will be on hand to help the public safely see the eclipse by having solar filters and solar glasses. SCNC staff will have activities and telescopes set up from 1:30-3:00 p.m. that day. 

Can't make it downtown?  East Athens Community Center is hosting a Total Solar Eclipse Viewing Party from 1:30 - 3:15 p.m.  Bring your family and blankets and chairs to the East Athens field to watch this magnificent event! Safety viewing glasses and information booklets will be provided! Popcorn will be available for $1 a bag. Prime viewing time in Athens is at 2:38 p.m. so don't be late!

What a Zoo!

Wrap up summer at Zoo Day 2017 on Saturday, August 26 from noon – 3:00 p.m. at Bear Hollow Zoo at Memorial Park.
The theme is “Animal Superpowers,” and participants will explore some amazing animal adaptations. The event will have animal encounters, crafts, concessions, games, and special guests. The event will also feature live music by local youth rock band, “The Voltures.” 

The fee for this event is $2 per person for Athens-Clarke County residents and $3 per person for non-residents.  Children under the age of 2 are admitted free of charge.
