MLK Day in Athens

Throughout the year, the Athens-Clarke County community has gotten together to make a positive impact, whether through small group events, such as decaling storm drains, or through large community service projects, such as Rivers Alive. ACC Stormwater is excited to kick-off 2018 with that same community spirit. On Monday, January 15, join other community members in serving around town at the 2018 Athens MLK Day of Service. Volunteer registration will open early next week.
In addition to the Day of Service, there are several other events planned to honor Dr. King’s legacy. Check out this list of events and visit the MLK Day website for more information.

  • UGA Freedom Breakfast and Awards Ceremony – Friday, January 12th at UGA Tate Grand Hall

The MLK Day of Service is meant to celebrate and honor the birthday of the famed civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr. The Athens event is part of a national initiative that began in 1994 when the U.S. Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr., federal holiday as the only holiday observed as a national day of service.

The Athens MLK Day of Service Kickoff celebration will be held at the Clarke Central High School gymnasium at 8:30am, with registered volunteers getting free t-shirts and breakfast. Volunteers will disperse to their selected work sites around 9:30am.
