Deck the Walls

One Last Gift...

Need one more present this holiday season?  Give the gift of original art!  A diverse selection of local art is available for purchase at Deck the Walls at the Lyndon House Arts Center. 

Featuring a variety of local artwork including pottery, paintings, jewelry, and seasonal crafts. More than 70 artists will have items displayed and available for purchase. Shopping is available Tuesday-Saturday through December 30 from noon to 5:00 the Lyndon House. For more information call 706-613-3623.

Don't forget about the Frog Pond Gift Shop at the Sandy Creek Nature Center this holiday season. Need a local favorite for a hostess gift or far-away family? Jittery Joe's coffee and Brushwood Honey do the trick! Or, how about a bag of specialty bird seed for the person who has everything?

The Gift Shop is open Tuesday - Saturday from 8:30-5:30 p.m. Sandy Creek Nature Center members receive a 10% discount on regularly priced merchandise.

Holiday Hours

Holiday Hours...

Leisure Services Department facilities and parks will be closed Sunday, December 24 -Monday, December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday. Parks will re-open Tuesday, December 26 with reduced hours of 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Facilities will remain closed.  All parks and facilities will re-open Wednesday, December 27 with regular hours of operation.

On New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, all park grounds will operate under reduced hours of 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with all facilities closed. 

Regular hours of operation for all parks and facilities will resume Tuesday, January 2, 2018.


Are You Registered?

Athenians are invited to honor Dr. King's legacy at the 2018 Athens-Clarke County Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 15.
This year’s kick-off celebration will take place from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at the Clarke Central High School gymnasium located at 350 South Milledge Avenue.  

The first 200 registered volunteers at the Athens MLK Day of Service Kick-off event will receive free t-shirts. A light breakfast will be served. 

Individuals will volunteer at 14 sites throughout the community from 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. including Books for Keeps, Boulevard Woods Park, Brooklyn Cemetery, Loop 1 Daffodil Project, West Broad Market Garden, and others.  Register online to volunteer on MLK Day.
