Bring One for the Chipper!

Recycle your tree!  Take your undecorated Christmas tree to a participating location on Saturday, January 6 between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and receive a free tree seedling! 

Once again, Sandy Creek Nature Center is a drop off location for this annual event.

Get Your Team Together!

The Winter Break 3 on 3 Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, January 7 at East Athens Community Center.

The tournament, for ages 12-18, will take place from 2:30 - 5:30 p.m. Each round, the team that reaches 12 points first or has the highest score after 10 minutes wins! 

This is a double elimination tournament and three players per team must be present to participate. Fewer than three players present for a team will result in a forfeit of that game. Each team is allowed one substitute teammate.

The fee is $5 per team.  Online registration is underway now.

What's My Line?

Athens Creative Theatre will host auditions for its upcoming production ofAlmost, Maine.  The cast consists of ten men and nine women with an age range of 16 and older.

Auditions will be held Monday, January 8 and Tuesday, January 9 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Quinn Hall at

Out of this World

Out of this World...

Let's blast into 2018 with this parent and child based class for space based astronaut adventures.

Little Astronauts Adventures, for ages 2-6, is set for Wednesday, January 10 from 10:00 -
11:30 a.m. at Rocksprings Park.  

Participants will make a craft that is out of this world, enjoy the astronaut photo booth, sample space snacks, and experience a little astronaut training. Parents are encouraged to play along with their child and, of course as always grandparents, aunts and uncles are welcome too.

The fee is $4 for ACC residents and $6 for non-residents. Online registration is required.

Are You Registered?

Athenians are invited to honor Dr. King's legacy at the 2018 Athens-Clarke County Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 15.
This year’s kick-off celebration will take place from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at the Clarke Central High School gymnasium located at 350 South Milledge Avenue.  

The first 200 registered volunteers at the Athens MLK Day of Service Kick-off event will receive free t-shirts. A light breakfast will be served. 

Individuals will volunteer at 14 sites throughout the community from 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. including Books for Keeps, Boulevard Woods Park, Brooklyn Cemetery, Loop 1 Daffodil Project, West Broad Market Garden, and others.  Register online to volunteer on MLK Day.
