"Who cooks for you?"  Do you know which owl says this call?  Join us to find out that answer and explore our woods at night in search for owls!   

It's time to head to the woods and see what the owls are doing!  Sandy Creek Nature Center will host its popular "Owl Prowl" family program on Friday,  January 19 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

The fee is $2 for ACC residents and $3 for non-residents. Pre-registration is required.  Register online for this program. Bring a flashlight.

Teen Tumbling

Just for Teens!

Calling all teens who enjoy tumbling, want improve their skills for cheerleading, or who want to get ready for cheer tryouts.

Teen Tumbling is the perfect class to work at your own pace with your friends or your squad. Parents can pay by the class and you may attend as many as you like.

This program is for ages 12-16 and takes place Wednesdays now through April 25th from 6:00 - 7:25 p.m. at Bishop Park.  The fee per session is $10 for ACC residents and $15 for non-residents.  Register online for this program.

Memorial Park

Have a Look...

The Leisure Services Department will host public review meetings concerning the Memorial Park Vision Plan. 

The meetings will be held Wednesday, January 24 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 27 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the Memorial Park Recreation Hall.

These sessions are a follow up to the vision plan process held in October regarding three conceptual diagrams for the park. Based on input from the public, staff has synthesized the results into a vision plan and document that represents the most highly ranked and feasible options for moving the park forward. The public is encouraged to attend one of the upcoming review sessions to weigh in on this vision plan.  

Citizens who are unable to attend one of these sessions may take advantage of public review opportunities available online at between January 25 and February 15 at midnight.

Lyndon House

It Could be a Masterpiece!

The Lyndon House Arts Center announces the artwork submission days and online entry forms for the 43rd Juried Exhibition with guest juror Wassan Al-Khudhairi, Chief Curator at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis. 

Submission days are:
Thursday, January 25 from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. 
Friday, January 26 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Artists are encouraged to complete this entry form prior to arriving with their artworks on the submission days.  Artists may complete this online form until January 26 at 4:00 p.m.  Guidelines are available online, as well.

Those who do not have access to a computer, or have not completed an online entry form prior to dropping off their artworks may complete the form upon arrival at the Lyndon House.  

Athens-area artists are welcome to bring one to three works for consideration by        Ms. Al-Khudhairi.  Please be aware that to complete one’s entry, one must bring the actual artworks to the Lyndon House during the submission days.

All artists will be required to complete and attach artwork labels and pay the entry fee of $25.00 during the submission days.  The entry fee is a fixed price whether one submits one, two, or three artworks.

You are invited to "Violet Beauregarde's Blueberry Brunch" at Rocksprings Park on Friday, January 26, from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.

We all remember Violet Beauregarde from Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, in her honor here is a program all about blueberries!

Participants, ages 2-6 with their parents, will try different recipes with a blueberry theme, have a Violet Beauregarde dress up session, enjoy a reading of Dear Mr. Blueberry, have blueberry play time, and a craft.

The fee is $4 ACC resident and $6 Non-residents.  Registration is underway and is required.
